The Steelton community honors veterans today at the inaugural Veterans Appreciation Ceremony at Veterans Park. Steelton Borough Mayor Thomas Acri, State Senator Mike Folmer, and State Representative Patty Kim offered remarks.
The community was especially honored to welcome home Captain Arthur Halfpapp, a WWII pilot whose remains were finally returned to Steelton this year.
Captain Halfpapp’s nephew, Pastor Jack Sipe Sr, shared stories of his uncle and provided the invocation for the event. The ceremony closed with a 21-gun salute by the Steelton Legion Post 420 Honor Guard and the playing of taps–a reminder of the sacrifice brave Steeltonians like Captain Halfpapp have made and continue to make to protect our freedom.
Steelton Borough would like to sincerely thank everyone that contributed to and participated in today’s ceremony.
