What codes does the Borough of Steelton utilize?

The 2015 International Building Code 2015 (IBC 2015). It is a model code produced by the International Code Council (ICC).

How long will my permit take to process?

Usually a permit takes about 2 – 3 business days to process. However, the larger the project, the longer it takes to review. In accordance with the adopted Uniform Construction Code (UCC), residential permit applications must be approved within 15 business days. Commercial permit applications must be approved within 30 business days.

Commercial permits are processed and inspected by CCIS (Commonwealth Code Inspection Services).

How do I submit my permit?

A permit must be submitted in person. The Codes Department is located at
123 N. Front Street, Steelton, PA 17113 – on the 3rd floor

If I have a multi-phase job, must I take a permit out for the entire job or can I take out permits as I go?

You would not apply for permits as you go. A blanket permit would be issued.

What if I change contractors mid-project?

When must a contractor secure a bond?

A bond is only required for a Street Cut Permit.

What if my work involves the blocking of a public parking area?

You must contact the Borough Secretaries’ office (717-939-9842 ext. 0) and purchase “No Parking” signs for $5 each. They are to be placed 24 hours prior to the spot being blocked. You must ensure that emergency vehicles can get by.

What if I have questions regarding activation of my water charges?

You must contact Pennsylvania American Water at 1-800-565-7292.
