Penn State Health Children’s Hospital and Steelton Police Department are proud to offer Safe Sitter training. We hope to provide information that will teach your child how to handle emergencies when caring for other children. Black History Month: Meet The Montford Point Marines

In 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt opened up Marine Corps recruitment and basic training to African Americans at Montford Point from 1942-1949. This segregated training base was established on the grounds of Camp Lejeune to prepare the Marines for various duties while in combat. Some became gunners while serving in the Ammunition and Depot Companies. (more…)

Steelton Borough Council presents a proclamation honoring the Islamic Society of Greater Harrisburg

Steelton Borough Council Vice President Maria Marcinko presented a proclamation honoring the Islamic Society of Greater Harrisburg for building bridges with neighbors in the community. The Islamic Society–which has been located in Steelton Borough for decades–held an open house last Saturday focused on reaching out to the Central Pennsylvania community. This event embodied Steelton’s historic role a community that fosters diversity and inclusion. Thank you to the Islamic Society of Greater Harrisburg for continuing its work in our town.

Steelton Borough Continues to Improve Downtown with Completion of Bollard Replacement Project

As part of ongoing efforts to improve Steelton’s downtown area, the Borough recently completed its Bollard Replacement Project on January 15, 2016. The project replaced 27 bollards at the Front and Locust Street areas that had been damaged or displaced due to vehicles crashing into them. The Borough is currently looking into the installation of surveillance cameras at Front and Locust Streets to record any vehicles that damage or displace a bollard without reporting the accident. Steelton Borough Honors Council Members at Last Meeting of 2015

Council members Steve Shaver and Dr. Mary Jo Szada were recognized by the Steelton Borough Council at the December 21st meeting; the last meeting in which they both would be serving. Council President Jeffery L. Wright presented plaques to Mr. Shaver and Dr. Szada recognizing the years of service they have dedicated to the Borough as members of Borough Council. Members of Council, staff, the Mayor and Borough Solicitor gave comments about Mr. Shaver and Dr. Szada wishing them good luck in their new endevours. (more…)
